BMA and its Partners distribute $955,000 to youth serving organizations in Boston
The Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston (BMA), is working with its partners, United Way of Massachusetts Bay, Emmanuel Gospel Center, and Boston TenPoint Coalition, to address the needs of high-risk and at-risk youth in the City of Boston, with program expansion grants totaling $720,000 made to 23 community-based and faith-based organizations. The ultimate goal of these grants is to develop a stronger network of organizations to improve the landscape of services available to youth in Boston. The Partners also announce 23 capacity building grants totaling $235,000, which are intended to strengthen the management practices of youth-serving organizations.
The grants are made through the Boston Capacity Tank, a program of the BMA established with the Partners to build the capacity of faith-based organizations (FBOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) which serve at-risk youth in Boston. The Partners seek to increase the scale and effectiveness of community services to at-risk youth and families, leading to better lives for our youth and to more vital communities.
The program grantees will use the funds to expand best-practice youth programs, among those including mentoring, street outreach, educational support, college preparation, parenting training, teen jobs, counseling, case management, and legal advocacy. The new grant funds will create 57 new teen jobs and will allow these programs to serve an additional 1,841 youth. Overall, the funded programs will serve 4,372 youth, and provide jobs for 121 teens. Please see below a list of the new grantees.
Over the three-year project period, the Tank and its Partners have made 55 capacity-building grants totaling $665,000 to 42 organizations. The Tank has also made 87 program expansion grants totaling $2,502,565 to 44 faith-based and 43 community-based organizations, which together impact 26,372 youth, and have created 353 new youth jobs.
The Boston Capacity Tank and its partner services are funded by a $2 million Compassion Capital Fund grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services. For more information, please visit our website at www.bmaboston.org.
